Google social search is live! …but not to mix with realtime search

Google is now taking the step into social search with a different twist. They are integrating it with the personalised version of the Google account and adapts t0 your social network and your own personal choice of peers. Bing recently launched their integration of Twitter in the US results and that is a real time search listing that Google as well will be integrating soon. Bing now index most common and popular tweets for everyone. Google announced they will do the same thing, but we have still not seen this appear in their listings.

Google is now leading the search battle in a different category: Personalised search! Google have earlier released a personalised version where everyone that has a Google account and are logged in can opt-in (as before) to get more personalised results, change the listings as they wish and comment on the search result. The added feature to this service is that you can now integrate your social networks from Twitter, Friendster, Gmail or other social sites and search amongst your social peers for relevant results. The cool thing about this feature is that you can share your social search results with others if you like. That means they can see your own network and your comments on different listings. This is a very interresting approach from Google and we can expect more features in this direction as we move along!

For the user it is great value but this also means it will be more difficult for companies to get into the now “private” personalised search results. Basically the customer now rules and is in control of their own results. As a company it is now even more important to win the trust of your existing and potential customers. As a result they will promote you to their social peers in their networks and their social search results!
